Mandy Florence

Psychologist

Background

I am a registered Clinical Psychologist and have been working in private practice for 22 years.  I have extensive experience working with eating disorders.  I worked as the ward psychologist on the Eating Disorders and Adolescent Unit at the Tara H. Moross Centre for 3 years and was involved in intensive patient care (including individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, family therapy and parent counselling). I was responsible for the clinical training and supervision of intern psychologists, clinical psychologists and psychiatric registrars.

Thereafter I continued to build this area of specialisation in private practise.  I ran an art therapy programme for the Eating Disorders Unit at Crescent Clinic as well as private group self-exploration and development programmes.  I started up a reading group focussing on the Psychodynamic Understanding and Treatment of Eating Disorders and I continued to supervise psychologists and interns working in this field.  I gave presentations and seminars for continuing professional development for psychologists in private practise.

While my practise has been focussed on Eating Disorders, I have also worked intensively with patients suffering from depression, bipolar mood disorder, anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder,  self-harm and suicidality.  My work includes more general issues such as addictions,  bereavement, relationship difficulties, life transitions, abuse and violence, sexual abuse, sexual identity and sexuality as well as personal growth and development.
